Take track 6, "She Got To You": the song starts out with a funk rhythm then at the chorus changes to a subtle Latinesque rhythm topped off by sweet, soft saxophone which instantly reminded me of Paul Desmond. It's been a while since I've heard an album this good. I wasn't expecting that but it was a welcome surprise. The music is good enough for a jazz snob yet accessible enough for just about anyone. There are no weak tracks on this album.Esperanza's vocals are often soothing and always spot on and her bass playing is omnipresent yet never overbearing. The music is relaxing but lively and the compositions are dynamic. I've listened to a lot of music and a lot of jazz in general but it was great albums like this that led me deeper into the world of music. Listen to the samples and if you think there's even a slight chance you'll like it then you're right: do your ears a favor and buy this album.
I love this cd. I am officially hooked on this cd it has a nice tempo and a nice mixture of classic and contemporary jazz. I'm not much of a jazz listener but I do appreciate good music and when I saw Esperanza perform at the White House honor of Stevie Wonder I was hooked. I was aprehensive at first but reading the other reviews helped encourage me to buy this cd. By the end of the cd I feel as if I've been on a world journey as Esperanza pulls inspiration from many cultures. This is a nice cd for any jazz lover and all of the other newbies like myself.
i don't run straight to the store to buy a music cd yes i like jazz when i first heard this cdw i ent on amazon and bought it she has a beautiful relaxing voice and does not sing half naked or in a swim suit sings with class best jazz cd you can every buy classy
. There is an incredible variety on here, and it's all great. Oh yeah, her whole band sounds like an all-star cast.
I keep listening to this over and over and over. I had seen this artist in various music magazines as a promising new jazz talent, but wasn't prepared to be blown away like I was after I got this CD and actually heard her stuff. you might become addicted.
It's like audio honey. then I play it again. Everything is so "right" - the vocals, the melodies, the tight bass lines, the feel, I could go on.
It's much more than a "jazz" album, it's kind of in a class by itself. I hear interesting new things every time I listen.
A friend recommended this CD to me. I was not disappointed. I'd never heard of this artist and decided to check it out. I listened to some of the songs on the Amazon website and knew I would love this CD. I play it at home all the time. My kids even hum or sing along with it.
